So the Atem had controlled that puzzle also gone the deep end. Wondering how to treat this, how far did this Yuugi go? How far did the corruption go? He was once a person who did what he could to save anyone life but after seeing death happen before him… well he realize not everyone could be save. Not unless they truly reach for it…

“A game eh..? Alright. Fair deal.” he said quietly keeping his hands inside his pocket and looking at him.

“Long as you promise to hold your end of the deal then… I will keep mine.”

There were twists and turns. Hopefully Yugi’s life had become enough of a rabbit warren to keep the juiciest details to himself. Then again other versions of his line were quick to pick up weak points for exploitation. Still if he could keep this Yugi guessing long enough to put himself at peace it would be worth it. He liked to eliminate those he didn’t need to pursue quickly. He preferred peace, despite his shell, if he could have it and if this Yugi was an enemy…

“I do my best to always keep my word,” he inclined his chin in the ghost of a curt nod, promising. “So, then; where is your Atem?”

At this Elder one raise his eye brow again, what is with that question… he asked before and he wonder if it had any meaning to it. “My Atem? Surely you jest I hope.. I am far too old for playmates don’t you think?” he chuckled. “But I suppose I did promise to be good didn’t I? Such a pity..” a sigh, “He is in the afterlife as he should be. Why other reason would he have to hang around here? Denied death so many thousands of years ago, it would be rather cruel of me to want him back when the man deserve peace don’t you?”

“But I suppose it would be my turn to ask as to why you are asking such a question. What does it matter if I have one or not?” and he kept himself prepare for anything.

Well… he was honest and he was at least giving him a fair warning. “You call that childhood treasure? I can see miles away how much corruption it has. Atem used it to control the Shadow realm haven’t he? In the hands of a Yuugi that is more than simply dangerous, Its hazard even for you.” But he stood his ground, looking at him without being bother by it. If it came to worst.. well he had other ways to protect himself didn’t he?

Hands inside his pockets he tilted his head a bit to the side and raise an eye brow, “Well only fair to say I don’t keep childhood sentimental with me.. I will however not say further than that. After all you barely answer my question..” and smiled.

Why would older Yuugi have a need for an Atem would continue to puzzle him. He had done a fine job on his own after the final duel to grown up to be the man he was today. No Atem had done that for him.

“Corrupt, wild… whatever word you want to use. It’s just settling down to a new home.” He retorted meekly. “Oh I don’t know about that… the Atem who had this one wasn’t terribly adept at self control. An exception to the rule I think~” He chuckled. “Besides, I like the hazardous.”

“Well then…” he drawled, ponderously, before offering; “how about we make a game of it? We’re good at that. If I answer one of your questions honestly, will you return the favor? We can take turns.” He wouldn’t settle, hands laced round the item, till he was a little surer of this one. Was there a Pharaoh about? Was the Pharaoh as able bodied as this host? What other factors did Yugi need to concern hismelf with? Were they a threat?

So the Atem had controlled that puzzle also gone the deep end. Wondering how to treat this, how far did this Yuugi go? How far did the corruption go? “I can see a lot of things that even Atem would coward in fear.” but he chuckled lightly as if amused more than insulted by his commentary. “I never once claimed to be bigger man, I am simply asking question and wondering who am I speaking to.” But it was his time to narrow his eyes a bit. “Although I am curious as to why you hold your puzzle still. You are far too old for such heavy trinkets.. not to mention the puzzle without its master is simply… a dangerous tool. Tell me, are you plotting to use the puzzle power against me?”

As he gave him a long and hard stare. Debating if perhaps this was more of a child play than adult verbal assault. The puzzle did glow that time period, likely hissing. Such dangerous little power to have… and to any version of himself. Disasters.

“I jest,” he dismissed lightly, “though who else would you be speaking to  but a version of yourself? I don’t confess to be much more than that.” Though the tension in the man’s face did not escape him, his own lips pinching in a tight line reflexively. Yugi was so tart, fingertips sliding to cage about the rumbling puzzle.

“I found a new use for the childhood treasure,” he shrugged one shoulder bouncing, “and if I decide to use it against you I’ll be honorable enough to warn you first.” Though he made no promises outside that.

He wasn’t meant to be a subject of prolonged contemplation, he disliked it so, naturally, he deflected. “But what about you other-me? Where are your childhood toys and playmates? Your Pharaoh?” The important question.

Well… he was honest and he was at least giving him a fair warning. “You call that childhood treasure? I can see miles away how much corruption it has. Atem used it to control the Shadow realm haven’t he? “Curiosity did kill the cat…” he chuckled, watching him with careful gaze. This one.. definitely very different from the other Yuugi’s. How different he would have to find out. But the minute he saw him the game already begun, and having the puzzle glow was not something he had expected either. He looked far too old for such heavy trinket.. No, if he had to guess he had to be more than twenty-one, those eyes spoke volumes and his face was more sharp than the rest of the others.

“I am not sure if it will be a good thing you found my aura.. interesting. Most people would be terrified of my presence… ” but his smile was friendly and he continue to stare at this version of himself. “So tell me then how old are you? What have you seen my younger self? Demons perhaps? Those eyes of yours are easy for me to read.”

This one was was competent, Yugi himself had never found one so evolved. The man was merciless to charge forward into hard to the bone questions and if Yugi didn’t so like to himself he would’ve been disarmed. Shrewd, shrewd… He’d have to scout this one out properly. The puzzle hissed along the inner length of his ear canal. Did this one have a partner? That always made things more difficult.

“I’ve seen bigger men than you,” if he didn’t say it with such a nonchalant deadpan it might’ve come across as a bad pun. It probably still did. “That much power’s honey when you get accustomed to feeling it twinkle on the horizon just in sight…”

“Well, read then and guess~” He challenged parting his opened hands. He wasn’t crunching to pieces so soon. Not without a good verbal spar. “I’m curious to see how you see me.”

He had a nick knack at finding version of his partner. Why? He had no idea as to why but it amuse him none the less. “Hello Yami yuugi…” he wasn’t sure if it would be proper to call him by his real name. After all every version that came either knew or didn’t. Assumptions weren’t always safe. “It would be ironic to say Nice to meet you even thought we already meant.” he chuckled lightly.

He was used to all types of Yuugi. From his beginning days of the puzzle to ending of it. It was, what he assume were his most important days of his life. The puzzle had not only provide him with courage thanks to his partner but also the friends he gained. He knew that the wish hadn’t actually come true but it did help lead him to that direction and for that he was thankful.

But this one… No, he suppose he would be weary of at least A version of himself.

“Well well.. look what came to greet me.. Hello younger me. What brings you to my humble presence?” he asked.

The puzzle rumbled, tingled, but the usual crackle and hissing spit was mollified under a wave of general interest. Oh? So it liked this version of himself did it? Not a promising sign but interesting nonetheless. Yugi dragged his teeth across his lip, tense spine ready as always.

“I’ll debate the younger but not the what,” he joked dryly. It was bizarre to see a version of himself older, with a face he would never have, a face matured and merry. Not Yugi’s current closer-to-adolescence sleek sharpness. “Curiosity mainly, my usual reason for all things, and the feeling you cast around you. It’s a pleasure to meet you I’m sure.”

What manner of heka is this? My son!

“He likely blink and think you are not real.” then he laughed stepping inside, looking around for his husband but not seeing any trace of him. “He must be at work…” he said softly looking for his pets until he saw his two large wolves coming up to him. Wagging their tails happily at his return. “Hello my little puppies, have you been good boys while dad was gone?” And he petted them softly and each reach to try to lick him clean. “Hey hey calm down…” he laughed.

It wasn’t until they realize there was a visitor in the room that they stopped. They did not growl but they stare. “Ah.. they don’t.. bite. They are tame wolves.”

The Great Pharaoh gazed carefully at the wolves, watching their body language. He tilted his head and remarked, “Why, they look like jackals! Yet they are so tame. They are lovely creatures. What are their names?”

Tenebris” he pointed to the white one, “Lux.” The black one. “They are technically similar so…” and chuckled watching them wag their tail at him then turning to look at the new person. “I am.. half son of jackal. Since it was Anubis job to take care of the souls of the dead.. I carry one from your son.. and well somehow I got mix up into it.” and smiled at him.

“I don’t mind, it keeps me quite entertain and busy for the most part..” and he walked to the kitchen to see if there was any left over food. “Would you like to eat now or change?” He asked.

“You call that growing up too fast? My dear Anzu, wanting to prepare yourself for your future does not mean growing up to fast. You wanted to see things and how they work out. Its the same concept as me leaving to travel all of those years ago. Wanting to experience things for ourselves is a wonderful feeling, sure it was wrong of you to leave without telling but.. if they are understanding of your situation and needs then.” He ponder a bit. “You are not married to them, last time I checked you didn’t date them seriously enough.. perhaps Dark but even he has his own side that is naughty.” he smiled.

image

Of course he remember him, such a nasty little temper he had. It was quite amusing to see him get all ruffle up just by talking. “But if you need some form of help I can do my best. Probably keep Kaiba at bay… Dark too if I try hard enough.” and laughed.

“I guess you’re right…” She mused softly, smiling gently to the other as she listened. She had been purely selfish, but it wasn’t such a bad thing. “I was just so certain that if I called anyone or even wrote letters, that I would just drop everything and come back. Show or no show. I managed to perform in three major ones. People didn’t even realize that I had taken Older Anzu’s place. They just said I looked much younger with shorter hair. Which, is why I grew it out a bit over there.” Her fingers rose up, moving through her short locks. “Of course, the first thing I did when I got to Domino was cut it.” She laughed.

image

“No, no.” She smiled, the thought of Dark making her cheeks redden slightly. “I can handle them. Especially Dark. I want to work that one out on my own.” She smiled a little, chuckling softly before she reached out, tapping his arm. “You, Mister, shouldn’t have all the answers like that. I bet Older Anzu can’t get over you not coming to her for advice anymore.” A laugh broke out on her lips, lightening the air around them.

He gave her a pout, a very famous one he knew he was very good at it. It made even his partner also weep on how cute it almost looked. But for older it was an ultimate weapon. “Come now.. how mean. I visit her as many times as she asked me. If I could get my hands on tickets that is..” he laughed feeling at ease with her. “But alright long as you enjoy yourself and did well enough I am sure you did fantastic. You really should had wrote me at least, I could have maybe sneaked my way to America with Atem and perhaps see you live again.” He missed seeing Anzu dance. It was one of the few things he knew she was extremely passionate that she glow when she danced.

“And if you can handle those two.. then I keep my distance… but don’t hesitate to let me know you hear?” And gave her a wink.

grim-secret:

“It is an important skill to have, to be sure.” To have those basic details instilled in case a situation arose when one needed to shift back to their more primal roots. Yuugi’s natural problem solving talents would carry him through it all just fine, improving the situation with his additional know-how of the art of preparation.

He was happy that he didn’t press him for further detail, though he undoubtedly left the conversation open enough to cause a troublesome side effect of concern in the process. Yuugi was giving him the room he needed to adjust, and he appreciated that. In the back of his mind, he knew eventually he would have to tell him. But there wasn’t a reason why he couldn’t just enjoy the others company for the time being. The only thing stopping that was him.

“Something safe….” Nothing of too complex of standards for the present day, “… some manner of substance…” To fill his aching stomach. “I can help you, Yuugi. You do not have to serve me in this way.”

He laughed, moving him aside off to the kitchen. “Hey its my home and my food, I say whatever goes.” but he meant it humbly and with a hint of humor. “So easy eh? I can make you some fried Fish and some rice with vegetable should be good eh?” He asked getting his pan out and placing it on top of the stove. “Don’t worry about a thing OK? i got you over.” And took some of the frozen fish he had left from a day ago and began to cook it. “You can clean the rice if you want to feel useful.” He pointed to the cabinet near him. “There should be a bowl on top counter of the sink so use it.” and took some of the vegetables out to boil a bit.

While cooking he turn to give him a wide grin, “I like cooking, in a way its a form to relax me a bit from my troubles not to mention its quite rewarding to see the results of your work.”
